What is a music collection app?
A music collection app helps you catalog and organize the physical music you own. Catalist can keep vinyl, CDs, cassettes, box sets, and other releases together with useful information about each item.
Can I catalog vinyl and CDs in the same collection?
Yes. You can keep different music formats together in one Music collection or create separate Vinyl, CD, Cassette, or other collections if that works better for you.
Can Catalist scan music barcodes?
Catalist supports UPC and EAN barcode scanning for supported music lookup. Coverage varies by release and provider, so manual entry remains available when scanning does not return a useful result.
Can I search for music without scanning it?
Yes. Catalist supports music lookup by text as well as supported Discogs release links. You can review available release candidates before saving one to your collection.
What happens if Catalist cannot find my release?
Add it manually. You can still record the artist, title, format, condition, photos, purchase information, notes, value, links, and custom details that matter to you.
Can Catalist tell me if I may already have the release?
Catalist can surface a potential existing-catalog match during supported lookup. Because music releases can differ by edition or pressing, review the match and your saved copy details before deciding whether it is the same item.
Can I keep multiple copies of the same album?
Yes. Different copies can be kept as separate Catalist items so each can have its own condition, photos, purchase information, notes, value, and other details.
Does Catalist automatically value my music collection?
No. Catalist lets you record a value for your own reference. It does not currently provide automatic appraisal or live music-market pricing.
Is my music collection public?
No. Catalist is private by default.
